Young Tapir (Tapirus bairdi). Corcovado, Osa Peninsula, Costa Rica. Central America, Middle American, from Mexico into coastal Ecuador. Lives in undisturbed climax rainforest, largely nocturnal though more diurnal during rainy season. About 8 months old; they stay with their mothers until they are weaned after about a year. Conservation status: “endangered.”
